Nirvana, I think writes the best lyrics. I think Kurt Cobain had an amzing gift for words, metaphors, satires, ironies, and the rest of the lot.
As for other bands lyrics, I don't much like The Beatles music, but their lyrics are great when they're not writing love songs (their love song lyrics are cliched crap.)
The Sex Pistols wrote some good stuff about anarchy and other such themes, but overall their lyrics are kinda repetitive.
Pearl Jam writes tremendous olyrics. Eddie Vedder...man, he is a lyrical genius.
Led Zeppelin wrote good too...

Er a lot of bands have good lyrics but the best I think would either be Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, and The Smiths/Morrissey. Each of those artists for me have a poetic feel to their lyrics which I love.

Coheed And Cambria I would have to say have the best lyrics. There so original, and emotional. I luv them.
