1. Heavy Metal Rules. If you don't like metal, then fine. But it does not suck! I happen to like Nirvana too, so there. 2. Master of Puppets is the best Metallica album in my opinion, but I still hold Slayer's Reign In Blood as one of the top metal albums of all time. If Slayer is a bunch of "fucking bitchass pussies", then I love "fucking bitchass pussy" music. 3. The difference between Black Metal and Dark Metal can be subtle, but it depends on who you ask. There are so many different kinds of Black Metal now, that they need new names for it. Mayhem, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir and other Black metal bands started out from the same style, yet now all sound completely different. The original wave of Norway's Black Metal scene was defined by raw production, extremely fast drumming (known as the blast beat), ultra-fast guitar with screechy vocals. Later on melodic and majestic keyboards added another layer to the sound. The lyrics were either Satanic, or filled longing for the Pagan ways of their country's old history. The general theme was to return to the ways of pre-Christian Norway. The first wave of Black Metal was influenced by Venom (who had an album titled "Black Metal") and Celtic Frost. They adopted the way these bands dressed, and some of their lyrical subject matter. "Corpse Paint" was the make-up style simular to Kiss and King Diamond to make everyone in the band look dead. Norway was the epicentre of the Black Metal scene, but Sweeden, Finnland and surrounding countries also got into the act early on. Dark Metal is more universal, as many of the bands that are part of the scene are from all over the world. This style seems to draw more from it's Death Metal roots. The riffs and the drumming tend to be slower and more thought-out. War seems to be a popular subject matter in the lyrics. as you can tell, I am a little obsessed with the subject...
