but the environment and genetics will work for or against you. Those are hard to fight.

True, but you have to work with the cards you're dealt. There are people born with crippling genetic disorders and they still enjoy life and don't feel sorry for themselves.

Absolutely, but then they are mostly in an environment that supports them, or they may have other qualities that make them less susceptible to get depressed and unmotivated.
