The king of the world will produce a live-action version of the Japanese manga and anime film Akira. Leonardo DiCaprio, who has teamed up with Warner Bros. has hired Ruairi Robinson to direct. Robinson's animated scifi comedy short Fifty Percent Grey (embedded, right) was nominated for an Oscar. Robinson wants to make the film, which is set to be released in the summer of '09, as a two-parter, moving the action from "New Tokyo" to "New Manhattan," a city rebuilt by the Japanese.

For nearly 10 years (or more), the movie industry hasn't cared about originality. They care about that green evil filling up their bank accounts. On a lighter note, it has been reported that Michael Bay will remake the horror classic Rosemary's Baby. Of course, we know he's remaking Nightmare on Elm Street, but yeah.... just shit from there. It's about what's popular, what's mainstream: remakes and bad parody movies. ;D
