The Ducky Boys have announced several new projects for the future. Later this year the band plans to re-release 1998's Dark Days with 10 extra tracks, retitled Dark Days and Lonely Nights. Following that they will be writing the follow up to Three Chords and the Truth, with plans to record this winter.
In addition vocalist Mark Lind and guitarist Doug Sullivan are each working on solo albums for release in the fall. Lind commented that Sullivan's material reminds him of Joe Strummer's final band the Mesceleros.
Second guitarist Steve Young recently amicably left the Ducky Boys in order to focus on his other band, Confront. Ducky Boys have no plans to replace him, and will carry on as a three piece.

New York Dolls Sign With Roadrunner By Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. After reuniting last year for the first time in decades, seminal underground rock act the New York Dolls has signed a new deal with Roadrunner. The group is at work on its first new studio album since 1974's "Too Much Too Soon," expected to be released next spring.
Surviving original members David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain will be backed on the set by guitarist Steve Conte, bassist Sami Yaffa, drummer Brian Delaney and keyboardist Brian Koonin. That same lineup is on the road this summer for a handful of dates, beginning Saturday (July 16) at the Cisco Systems Bluesfest in Ottawa, Ontario.
"Since word has spread of the band getting back into the studio to record new material, I've been inundated with calls from various high-profile producers and artists wanting to get involved," Roadrunner A&R executive David Bason tells Billboard.com. "I can't reveal any names yet but it's nice to have such a vote of confidence from the artistic community out of the gate."
"The sound of this record will be true to form New York Dolls -- down and dirty rock'n'roll," he continues. "I've heard sketches of the material and if it's any indication, the record will blow you away."
The Dolls regrouped in 2004 at the urging of Morrissey, who was the president of the group's fan club during its heyday. An early comeback show yielded the CD/DVD "The Return of the New York Dolls: Live From Royal Festival Hall 2004," which Morrissey released on his Attack imprint via Sanctuary. Original bassist Arthur "Killer" Kane died suddenly of leukemia shortly thereafter.
As previously reported, Kane is the subject of the new film "New York Doll," which chronicles the ups-and-downs of his post-Dolls life. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters in October.
Here are the New York Dolls' tour dates:
July 16: Ottawa, Ontario (Cisco Systems Bluesfest) July 17: Montreal (Les Franco Folies De Montreal) July 23: Amagansett, N.Y. (Stephen Talkhouse) Aug. 6: Notodden, Norway (City of Notodden) Aug. 12: Sayreville, N.J. (Starland Ballroom) Aug. 13: Atlantic City, N.J. (House of Blues) Aug. 31: Anaheim, Calif. (House of Blues)

In Memorium Yesterday, Silkworm drummer Michael Dahlquist was killed in an auto accident in Skokie, Illinois. Dahlquist and two companions -- John Glick, guitarist of the Returnables and Doug Meis, drummer of Exo -- were stopped at a traffic light and were intentionally struck from behind by a 23-year-old woman in a failed suicide attempt. Dahlquist, Glick and Meis were all killed in the crash; they were 39, 35 and 29, respectively. The woman was not seriously injured.
Silkworm bassist/vocalist Tim Midgett confirmed Michael's passing on the band's message board earlier today. There is also a thread mourning the loss on the Electrical Audio message board, where Dahlquist was a contributor.
Silkworm's last release was 2004's Touch And Go-released It'll Be Cool. Their last show was April 30 in Coumbia, Missouri. To those unfamiliar with the band's music, you can stream a song off their MySpace page, and find three MP3s at their Touch And Go page under the "Featured Clips" tab.

Pixies planning new record
NME is reporting that the Pixies are planning to record their first new studio full length in 14 years. Frank Black spoke to UK paper The Sun about the possibility of a follow up to 1991's Trompe Le Monde. He commented:
"It's all hugs and kisses, I'm pleased to report.
We have been discussing recording a new album lately. As happy as we are with the success of the reunion tour, we really want to make a record for the right reasons, whether it is successful commercially or not.
...We would be satisfied if it played like our other records, never chart-topping but always in print."
Since the Pixies reunited last year they recorded two tracks. This includes digital-only single "Bam Thwok" and Warren Zevon tribute cover "Ain’t That Pretty At All." In the meantime Frank Black will release a new solo record this coming Tuesday. Honeycomb hits stores on the 19th via Back Porch Records.

In Memoriam Laurel Aitken: the Godfather of Ska (1927-2005)
London's Club Ska is reporting that at 8 am this morning Laurel Aitken, widely acknowledged as the 'Godfather of Ska' and affectionately known as 'Boss Skinhead,' died of a heart attack at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester, England. Aitken was born in Cuba on April 22, 1927 and moved to his father's homeland of Jamaica in 1938. In 1957 he began his recording career with the single "Roll Jordan Roll." The double A-side "Little Sheila" / "Boogie in my Bones" was the first single released on Chris Blackwell's Island Records, one of the first ever ska records, and the first Jamaican recording ever released in England. Aitken relocated to the U.K. and recorded numerous hits throughout the 60s. He was later acknowledged as "an elder statesman to the Two Tone ska revival movement of the punk era" (AllMusic).
The 2-Tone era saw Aitken performing with the English Beat, touring with mod band Secret Affair, and backed by punk/reggae act the Ruts. In the 80s Aitken regularly toured the U.K. and recording with British act Potato 5. In 1986 appeared in mod film Absolute Beginners alongside David Bowie. Throughout the late 90s he performed with several third-wave ska acts, including the Toasters and the New York Ska Jazz Ensemble. Most recently, 2002 saw the release of Live at Club Ska.

July 17, 2005, 7:30 PM ET Woman Charged With Murder In Silkworm Crash An allegedly suicidal woman is accused of deliberately causing a high-speed crash in Niles, Ill., that killed three Chicago rock musicians, including, as previously reported, Silkworm drummer Michael Dahlquist. Jeannette Sliwinski, 23, was charged with first-degree murder and was being held under guard at a hospital after she was denied bond Friday. Cook County (Ill.) Assistant State's Attorney Colleen Daly said prosecutors might seek the death penalty. Sliwinski, of Morton Grove, allegedly told investigators that she had been in a fight with her mother before the crash and wanted to take her own life. Police said Sliwinski was driving at least 70 mph and had run three red lights when her car rammed the musicians' car at an intersection in the northern Chicago suburb Thursday. Police said Dahlquist, 39, John Glick, 35, and Douglas Meis, 29, were on their lunch break from their day jobs at the audio equipment manufacturer Shure and were stopped at a red light when their car was struck from behind. Skokie police said both cars were flipped over by the impact of the crash, and the musicians' car struck another vehicle, causing two injuries.

Jackson Fails To Show For Civil Hearing
Neither Michael Jackson nor his attorney showed up today (July 20) for a hearing in a civil case that accuses the pop star of sexual assaulting an 18-year-old during the 1984 World's Fair in New Orleans.
U.S. District Judge Eldon Fallon scheduled an Aug. 17 hearing in which Jackson must show why he should not be held in civil contempt or have a default judgment entered against him.
Today's hearing was supposed to be procedural for Jackson to show he had legal representation. Jackson family spokesperson Brian Oxman couldn't explain why Jackson wasn't represented at the hearing but said it would be taken care of.
"I will take care of this matter and make sure it is handled in an appropriate way -- the order from the court today and the lawsuit," Oxman said.
He said the allegations against Jackson are false and said the lawsuit is another trying to take advantage of the singer's wealth and celebrity.
Joseph T. Bartucci Jr. claims in the lawsuit that he was lured into Jackson's limousine, then held against his will and sexually assaulted during a drive to California and back.
Bartucci was 18 at the time and claims he repressed the memories until 2003, when he saw media coverage of a child molestation trial at which Jackson was acquitted. The suit asks for an unspecified amount of money to compensate for alleged emotional and physical damage.
Jackson hired a team of local attorneys after Bartucci filed suit in November, but they withdrew from the case in April and have sued Jackson for $50,000 in legal fees.

The producers of Punk's Not Dead have announced some details about the ambitious documentary which aims to cover the punk scene from its inception in 1976 to the present. The filmmakers are aiming for a release in 2006 which will also represent the 30th anniversary of the genre. Among a huge list of bands appearing in the film in performance or interviews are Minor Threat, Stiff Little Fingers, The Briefs, Social Distortion, Dead Kennedys, NOFX, Discharge, Black Flag, Bad Religion, Alkaline Trio, X, Green Day, MC5, GBH and many others. The film also features contributions from notable personalities and organizations like Legs McNeil (PUNK Magazine), Kevin Lyman, SST, Arturo Vega (Ramones), Fat Wreck Chords, Brandon Cruz and BYO. The filmmakers write: "Thirty years after bands like the Ramones and the Sex Pistols infamously shocked the system with their hard, fast, status-quo-killing rock [...] “pop-punk” bands have found success on MTV [...] Meanwhile, “punk” has become a marketing concept to sell everything from cars to vodka, and dyed hair and piercings mark a rite of passage for thousands of suburban kids. Can the true, nonconformist punk spirit still exist in today's corporatized culture?" Stills from film can be found here. The film is directed by Susan Dynner and counts Tim Armstrong among the producers. More details about the film can be found on the official website.
