well let's just say he still knows how to fucking rock. mr. plant played about six or so songs from his new album and the rest were old zeppelin classics such as black dog, whole lotta love, gallows pole, that's the way, and many others. surprisingly (and my only complaint) is that he didn't play stairway to heaven.
so basically for my first concert I got treated led zeppelin. not a bad way to start out if you ask me.
plant can sing really well still and his band (the strange sensation) sure know how to fucking play.
the first two songs he did were off his new album and the audience liked them, but one of the greatest moments of the show was after the second song (the nice rocker "shine it all around") was done, there was complete silence for a moment. then plant sung quietly, in his traditional high-pitched led zeppelin melody, "hey hey mama watch the way you move, gonna make you sweat, gonna make you grrove." music kicked in then, and the crowd went fucking nuts. the way they played "black dog" there was better than the original album cut, featuring more distortion and better rhythm, and even better vocals.
when he gave the audience the chance to sing part of "black dog" and we sung it kind of crappy 'cause we weren't expecting it, he went, "what the fuck was that? let's try that again, shall we."
I got up and started rockin' out to the classic zeppelin tune, thrashing my chin-length hair about so that I could only vaguely make out the figure of a living legend, robert plant, ex-led zeppelin frontman.
other highlights of the show were the ten minute version of "whole lotta love" and the ten minute acoustic version of "when the levee breaks". there were plenty of classics meddled in with new material, and overall it was just great fun. one part that was rather humorous was when robert and the band went off-stage after "when the levee breaks" and said that it was the end of the concert. right as people were getting ready to leave, they came out and played two more songs, "mighty rearranger" (one off the new album) and the finale, "whole lotta love" in a complete, raw, intricate form.
needless to say there was a hell of a lot of singing along and dancing and rocking out. in short, it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. robert plant and the strange sensation, I salute you.
