Did the EU ask the public what they felt about the idea? Each country dealt with it separately, and I think most (?) had public votings if they should have euro or not. In sweden we said no, the brits said no too, same with the Danes. (I might have missed some).
They will probably make us vote again in some years though.
(I personally would vote yes).

Ah, I see. The U.S. government never told their citizens. We had to find out from the news when the gears were already in motion. I've got a friend in Canada and he had to learn from CNN as well. I'm assuming it's the same way with Mexico. The governments probably didn't tell their people because they knew we'd be opposed.

Oh god... I just went out to breakfast with my boyfriend and his father. His father is very conservative, and really dislikes Obama. I happen to be a fan of Obama. Politics came up in conversation.... A LOT of politics came up in conversation. It was extremely uncomfortable. I wanted to kill my boyfriend... he told his father I was a liberal (As for myself I wouldn't necessarily call myself a 'liberal'). That, naturally, sparked a political conversation that was friendly, yet still extremely uncomfortable for me seeing as his father spent much of breakfast trying to convince me of how Obama is going to run the United States into the ground. There are two things I do not like to talk about over breakfast with ANYONE (especially not my boyfriends father whom I barely know). Those things are religion and politics. The only way my boyfriend could have made that worse for me would be if he had told his father that I am an atheist.

China Calls for Global CurrencyLooks to me like China's just trying to save their asses. This is a terrible idea to me. If one country enters into an economic depression, it'll bring the value of the entire planet's currency down, thus making it more expensive to buy what you need. A global currency?? That is the dumbest thing I have EVER heard. Yes, let's all get together and bind ourselves to the same economic fate. Talk about a financial domino effect... if one nation goes down we all go down.

Bush took care of that.
